Medical Case Study
Industry: Medical
Contaminates: Hydrocarbons (molding residues)
Substrate: Catheters - Polyethylene/Teraphalate
Equipment Used: Plasma Etch System, Model BT-1
Details of Application:
This company is a leader in medical catheter production. The parts we processed were catheters constructed of polyethylene shafts with polyethylene teraphalate (P.E.T) balloons. Both, the catheter and the tubing require plasma treatment to dramatically increase the bonding of these parts together. Plasma treatment increased bind strength by over 50%.
Additionally, the pre-treatment has allowed this company more options to integrate different materials in their catheters. This has led to increases in production and customer satisfaction.
This company uses an argon - oxygen plasma to increase adhesive bond strength.
This company chose Plasma Etch, Inc. due to the uniform etch that was received on their test sample.
Note: Several company tests in the Medical Industry has proved that pretreatment with plasma dramatically increased adhesive bond and enhances the reliability that is so crucial in the Medical Industry.
